Attic Fan Help

Hi everyone. I am hoping to install a Master Flow PG3 attic fan in my attic. There has never been a fan in there before (1964 house). There is a gable vent that is approx. 24" x 13" where I want to locate the fan. The fan is 15" in diameter. There are no soffits in the roof. Can I just install the fan on the inner studs where the vent is? I'd like to avoid installing a power gable vent, recutting the opening, etc etc....I calculated and it looks like I should need 840 cfm for the fan. This fan is 1400 cfm so would that compensate for the opening not being quite the right size and the vent not being power operated ,etc? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

No, we have an air conditioner. The top of the the house is just about 15 degrees hotter than the downstairs.

For attic vents you need to have 1 sqft for every 150sq ft of attic.
1/2 in and 1/2 out. For the attic vent fan. Sq ft of attic X 0.7=CFM of fan. Put the fan on a tstat for sure.

You really need to provide both attic and soffit ventiltaion. Without the soffit vents your attic will not vent properly and the installation of a fan will not help. You also don't want to mix gable vents with vent's on the top of your roof and this can lead to mold problems. Kactus, so you think that if I do install soffit vents, it would be ok to also put a powered attic fan at one of my preexisting gable vents?

Yes you need the vents down in the overhang of the home.Also make sure that the air from them can get over the insulation there and into the attic . Yes you need the attic fan on a tstat there.
