Pilot for heat on but that's it

Guys I should have posted this last night. I have an investment property that I just bought in aug. centrail air the last time it was service was in 3/03. I went over and lite the pilot w/ my realtor, we had the heat on 90 for about 2-3 hrs and it never kicked in, there's 2 on/off switch the main one on the outside and that's on and then there's another on the inside and that's on also. We followed instructions, it was on off all summer, then turn to pilot heard the gas light it, gave it 1 minute then turn to on, I forgot what he said, but he said something should have been calling to the pilot. I think the brand was "day & night". Am I looking at an expensive job here?
