no hot air from furnace

I dont know if someone else has had this problem, but here goes. My furnace is older, it is an Anderson model with a Honeywell thermostat. Early 2005 the furnace worked fine with no trouble. When we recently tried to turn the furnace on, the air coming out of my vents is cool air, not at all hot. I checked to make sure the temp on thermostat is set high enough for it to kick on. When I looked for the pilot light to see if it was on, I did not see any flames. I have an auto pilot light and the furnace says not to hand light it. I dont know what to do, and would like to avoid paying someone to do a quick fix if we can do it ourselves. Any ideas on how to fix it?
