Install a hard-start kit for compressor?

In the process of working the problem I had with my condenser fan motor, some of my friends told me I should install a hard-start kit just to make life easier for my 30+ year old compressor. I am not having any problems that I know of. Is this a good idea just as a precaution? Are there other issues to consider? If this is a good idea do I buy one based on the compressor horsepower rating?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Hard start kits are used to extend the service life of compressors that are exhibiting some difficulty in starting. It is not recommended to install a hard start kit unless necessary.
