Question CoolSentry Program

Does anyone have any experience with the CoolSentry Program?

The local utility has sent out information with offers to pay for participation but before I commit I'd like to get some feedback first if possible.

I'm not familiar with the term CoolSentry, but I'm guessing it's similar to the A/C Cycling Discount that our electric company (So. Calif. Edison) offers. Participants are given a monthly credit ($1.76/day for a 4-ton unit) in exchange for them being able to shut down your A/C compressor for up to an hour a day during times of heavy electrical demand. They install a receiver, so they can transmit the shut-down signal if needed. It's wired so only the compressor is shut down; your furnace fan continues to circulate air. A green light on the receiver flashes when they've turned your compressor off, so you know there's nothing wrong. In the 10+ years we've participated in the program they may have shut mine down, but I've never noticed it. I do notice and appreciate the $50 credit each month. Our program runs from the first Sunday in June to the first Sunday in October. Good luck.

Thanks,

It sounds pretty similar except the payment. They offer a one-time payment, not a monthly reduction.

Also, they do say that I'll probably never notice because they don't run it at night, weekends or holidays.

Your's sounds like a better deal

I'm still thinking about it

If your shut-off period is limited to an hour a day, you'll never notice it and the house temp won't change that much in an hour. It's free money and you can always opt out of the program, but you won't. Good luck.
