gas furnace won't blow heat

Hello to all,
I went to turn on our furnace for the first time this season and got nothing. I removed the front cover to the unit and there is a blower motor working but there is no flames working at the burners. I think the blower that is working is probably one to remove the fumes. It is very small. My power switch is on and the fuses all are on. I think the furnace has an electric pilot and not one that stays on all the time. I say this because I do recall a "clicking" just before you here the flames ignite.

I want to try to order a part and fix this myself if possible. I do plan on getting a furnace tune-up very soon, but I don't want the repair guy to give me a huge bill for some thing I could have fixed for $20.

Any help would be appreciated.

Scott

Do you have a sevice contract with this guy that's gonna do the tune-up? If so, chances are that the motors associated with the furnace is covered under the service contract.

No, I don't have a contract with anyone. I bought the house 4 years ago and have never had the furnace tuned up/cleaned since I bought it. I plan on calling the company that installed my neighbors new system last summer.

I am basically looking for ideas as to what might be wrong with my furnace so I can fix it myself. I can pretty much fix anything if I know what to do. As a matter of fact, last fall I installed an Aprilaire humidifyer on the very same furnace

Are you getting anything at all? Do you hear the clicking when you first turn it to "on" and raise the temperature on the thermostat? If you are not near it, have someone else turn it on for you while you are near the furnace. If it clicks, do you see the spark and is the pilot igniting? If the pilot ignites, does the clicking stop immediately after ignition? If it keeps clicking until it gives up (different furnaces have different delays built in), see my thread at the top of the HVAC page.

If you do not get any action when you turn it to "heat" and raise the temperature, then you need to test the thermostat and the wiring from the thermostat to the furnace. I'm sure that someone here can tell you which 2 wires to cross to get the furnace to start.

If you don't get any clicking

find the two terminals on the burner relay marked "TH" - "TH" - put a jumper here and the burner and ignition should start sparking.
