Lennox Whisperheat fire risk

we had Lennox Whisperheat installed in 1999. S/N 5899K 50607
this week, the circuit board went. it was charred and we're lucky it didn't start a fire.

our HVAC repairman told us that faulty circuit boards are a problem with this model. has anyone else had similar experiences?

very dangerous....
