Insulation for direct vent fireplace?

I have a direct vent fireplace that sits flush with the interior wall, and as such the back end of the fireplace is enclosed in a compartment that extends past the normal lines of the house. I have closed and caulked any air gaps that I could find in this compartment (except the ventilation piping) yet I still get a cold draft coming through in the winter. I noticed that there is no insulation in this compartment. I suspect that most of the draft is due to the floor being uninsulated....

Anyone know if a layer of blown in cellulose or fiberglass insulation would be acceptable to use in and around a direct vent fireplace???

blown in insulation [cellulose] is fire retardent not fireproof! fiberglass is fireproof but will melt at high temps and may add to the combustion - stay away from it.
