Decision between a Heat pump verus Oil furnace discussion

The main questions I have regarding a Heat Pump is will it be cheaper to run during the winter versus having an oil furnace( since the oil prices are higher now). Some are saying heat pumps crank heat out better now and that they are more efficient now compared to 5 years ago. What does anyone think about the oil industry as far as the price going down within the next five years? Thanks.
