problems with gas furnace

I have a gas furnace about 12 years old. Yesterday,it did not cut on when it was supposed to. I turned the temperature on the thermostat up, nothing happened. I then switched the thermostat from "auto" to "on" and it blew cool air. The unit made the same kinds of sounds it does when it worked, but it didnt have a red glow inside of it.

I have a repair man coming today. Someone told me it sounds like the thermocouple, which means it is a cheap and easy fix. Does it sound like it is this? Is there anything else is could be?

Out of all the nights for it to konk out, it chose to do this on the coldest night of the year!
