A/C output temperature

What temperature range should I expect to see coming out of the first vent in line from the blower with the air conditioning on? Lets say it's 100 degrees outside.

if your comfort range is set to 68-72, then I would expect at least 60 degrees

The temperature should be 12 to 16degF lower than the return air (room temp) temperature.

Thanks for the responses. Today it's 101 deg, I have the thermostat set on 78 deg and the output temp at the first vent is 51 degrees. It appears my nearly 20 year old A/C system is working just fine.

My next question. If I continually monitor the output temperature and it remains as it is, would I be wasting money having the A/C system checked every year by an A/C tech as many preach? We moved in here 3 years ago. I clean the condensor coils with a hose and oil the condensor blower motor every spring. The output temps remain essentially the same. I've never had it looked at. Good practice or no?
