Heater prep for winter

So it is finally getting cold. Is there anything I should do before turning my heater on?

Late reply but I think usually all you need to do is change your furnace filter then start using.

Thanks for the reply! That is what I thought (hoped!), but wanted to be sure. Anyway that is what I did and everything seems fine.
