pilot problem

I am new in this forum. I've read through most of the posts. I know my problem is a common issue which has been discussed several times but I still need help -
I just came back from BIZ trip for a month and half. I found my carrier weathermaker 8000 pilot wont stay. I will try to replace the thermocouple first. If not working, I guess I need to remove the entire pilot valve and cleaning, correct? what else do I need to check before I call in a technician?
Thx for help.
