Grinding noise in gas furnace
My Lennox gas furnace is making a grinding noise for approximately 2-3 seconds after the blower motor comes on for a cycle. The noise then stops, furnace operates normally, but when the motor comes on again for the next cycle it makes the grinding noise again for 2-3 seconds. Any ideas what this could be are appreciated. My furnace is only 2 years old.

Just a followup for others who may have read this or experience the same problem in the future, I finally had to call a repairman to look at the problem, and it was a bad inducer motor that was causing the noise. Pretty sad for a 2 year old furnace.

I can relate! My Lennox G11 furnace has started recently making the same kind of noise. It only occurs when the blower/fan starts and lasts only 2-3 seconds. I suspected something to do with the bearings. Although, everything works fine other than that initial noise. I didn’t know if this had anything to do with it- but I had my hardwood floors refinished in the house (dusty w/sanders) and have been doing some remodeling. To help alleviate some of this we did a good job covering duct openings (esp. air returns) and been swapping out furnace filters every three weeks this winter. This probably isn’t the culprit. With my recent luck and then reading about your “bad inducer motor” this more than likely be my situation also. With that- how much should something like this set me back or ballpark how much this will cost to have a fixed? Do I need it fixed right away? Next, I guess I’m asking for an opinion, but since we just moved in last August we have a Home Warranty. I wonder if this would be covered. Although, I think the policy covers is something breaks down completely and is unusable. Since it’s working today (although, signs of perhaps a shot inducer motor) it wouldn’t be covered.
