Wall paper glue and paint problem..

I moved into my house 4 years ago and had all the wall paper removed and the walls skim coated. My sons room is the only trouble room, the paint chipped and flaked in many places (old 70's and 80's like contact glue). I am in the process of repainting it myself, how should I prep the walls to eliminate future chipping in the future? Would a really good primer do the trick? Thanks in advance

if the wallpaper was hung with the old wheat paste then there is a coating of it on the walls. there's like a skin of paste on the walls so applying a paint will soften the paste and the paint will dry on this skin. once the paint is dry, it will flake off. you got to get to the plaster. wash the walls thoroughly with warm water. It might even behoove you to scuff the walls with a 80 grit sandpaper so that the walls have some "teeth" to grab and hold the paint.

You need to add lime in the skim coat process to prevent from cracking in the furture
