Random April

I made a Muxtape.

http://austingriffith.muxtape.com/

Is that even legal?

It's running on Amazon's S3... I've been working with EC2 and S3 and they could be a really cool way to implement HR.

Winter Work

I've been hunkered down for the past month splitting all of my free time between programming Horse Racing and playing Rise of Nations with Ranica.

It seems like the weekends are just flying by one after the other and I'm packing on the weight. I hope it's just a bit of hibernation and I will be up and at them in the spring!

Horse Racing Launch

I sent Horse Racing over to the Facebook Product Directory and I couldn't be happier with the results. Since I launched it, there has been a steady average of about 15 people playing at any given time.

These numbers totally suck in terms of Facebook application users, but I doubt the app could handle the sort of load that most of the successful ones boast.

In my mind, it is a success if I can keep a good percentage of the users engaged.

I'm building a large glass ant farm (pictures coming soon). But first, I needed to capture a small amount of ants and make sure I can keep them alive (and also to test their tunneling skills in the fine white sand).

I mixed two different colonies forgetting that they will wage war on each other. They did for a bit, but then they 'worked things out' as Danica put it.

You be the judge, check out the comparison screens.

Well at least Cookbook was out a couple weeks ago and has more users:

Cookbook 5,219 users
Recipe Binder 3,734 users
iCook 384 users

I'm exhausted

A good crowd showed up for Mark Z's keynote (video) at the facebook f8 launch. It's very humbling to be in a room with that many great minds.

I only got some of the basics working, but I can't wait to get home and start really building some stuff! Maybe a way to share recipes ... facebook cookbook? I'm in to cooking these days. Or maybe a comic strip creator where people can collaborate to make and share their own comic strips.

My cellphone has finally proven its worth to me. Not only did I use it to edit all the photos and make this post, but I also needed it to navigate my way from San Francisco to to my cousin's house in Oakland.

And all my life I have loved coming to the city, surrounded by buildings and people, to have a good time and experience new things.

My favorite part of the drive to Denver is coming over the pass and seeing the skyline for the first time.

Narcissistic Blogs, myname.com

A new buddy of mine, Carl Moeller recently added me to the narcissistic bloggers club and I'm flattered to be in a list with such successful bloggers, but that's just not my thing. And because I am truly in love with myself, this site is targeted at a single reader, me. This is my personal portfolio and collection of lists and thoughts by me and for me.

Don't get me wrong, these guys have got it figured out, but I am actually sort of disappointed in how all of these sites follow a basic Wordpress cookie cutter layout, and more often than not, are full of advertisements. But, if John Chow can make more scratch blogging than I can with a masters in electrical engineering, much respect is due. (He has only been blogging for a few months?)

Although I'm not exactly proud of it, I have been blogging since I was 17 and as soon as I got to college I realized I didn't want to be 'that guy' with ads all over my page. Even though my blog during college sold t-shirts, I've made less than 50 bucks my entire life from the web. (Wow, I was a little whoreish back then... look at the watermarks on the photos.)

In conclusion, the web is full of sell out bloggers who are probably making more money than you and certainly more money than me. And even though form should follow function, I think many of the 'dot com moguls' have lost site of the design that should go in to publishing content. But why should they care?

TypeCinch v025

I've been spending my free time for the last few days working on v025 of TypeCinch.

There are already some bugs I'm seeing, but Upgrading will add some new features including database backups, easier pictureList interface, new src options and a couple style changes here and there.

I also set it up to generate your content the first time it is viewed and then instead of hitting the database every time, it can just load the generated file.

For all the details, look for [v025] in the feature requests at typecinchdev.com
