Slow Drain..Lead Under Sink

Hello,
My Sink was slow to drain so I left it alone..when I returned there was a puddle under my sink and leak was coming from one of the joints..There is shiney object (looks like a wrap around metal tape and black washer or thread seal?) Its does not look tight and the leak was coming from the black rubber around the pipe..It's not far down the sink it's in the middle of the sink...I am not very good with this but I am hoping someone knows what i'm talking about...

Thank you in advance for your help....

D

It sounds like you have two problems.

1. The drain is clogged, probably in the P-trap but could be further down the line.

2. From what you describe, sight unseen i would guess that the line has leaked at some time in the past and it was repaired by taping over the leak.

If you will read my post titled "Girl needs some advice" you will see a step by step procedure to change out the defective pipe and solve your problem.
