sump pump

Hi I am getting water in my finished basement along 2 walls.the walls are finished with 2x4s and drywall and the foundation is stone.
my question is can i dig out a trench in front of the drywall to
install a drain to a sump basin.i know the proper way would be to
dig the trench were the stone wall meets the floor.but i want to try to save my finished walls

LazyPup is on a distinguished road
you can dig the trench anywhere it is convenient, however, if the water is coming under the drywall there is a high risk the drywall will absorb water from the bottom and it will leach up the wall destroying the sheetrock.
