P Trap for Show

I am installing a shower in my gargae and am a little confused about the ptrap.

I have a 2 inch line come up out of the slab. Do I have to dig down to set the ptrap and if I do, what do I fill the hole in the slab with when I am finished?

Thanks

What was the original intended purpose of the 2 inch line? If it was a floor drain is may already have a p-trap below grade.

The common slip joint type fittings on P-traps and tailpieces are not permitted below grade or in concealed locations, however it could have a PVC glued up trap which is permitted.

If you have to open the floor you can install a glued up type P-trap, backfill the hole with dirt then top with about 4 inches of sackrete concrete mix.

2 inch is the code minumum for a shower stall so you should have no problem with that line, but it would depend on the distance from the trap to the stack or vented building drain. You may have to create a vent for your shower.
