carlos is an unknown quantity at this point
wasting water

I have a old style 3.5 toilet and would like to convert it to a two flush one lever for number 1 with a small amount of water and another lever for number 2 with a larger amount of water. I have seen this somewhere before but can't find any information on it now. Please help. Thank You.

I remember seeing some toilets like you describe back in the early days of the water saver technology, but I can recall who made them.

The are some new flush valves on the market now that have a two stage feature. When the flush handle is lightly depressed they release a small portion of the water which is sufficient to flush liquid waste. If the hande is depressed and held down for about two seconds it will release all the water to flush solid wastes.

If you contact a commercial plumbing supply house they can probably get you one of the new two stage flush valves to retrofit your tank.

Here is another trick that will save considerable water on the old 3.5-4gal/flush models. Fill a gallon jug with water and sit it inside the tank away from any moving parts. It will displace one gallon of water in the tank, thus reducing your water consumption by one gallon per flush.
