Whirlpool tub picture link - try again

Hello All,

I'm new to this forum so I thought I'd say hello. My DH and I are remodeling our bathroom and have run into a problem with the tub leaking.

It appears that the leak is at the connection of pipe "A" where it enters pipe "B". There is a "ring" on "A" that seems as tho it should fit inside "B" and only the bottom of the ring does. The top remains outside pipe "B". Indicating, I suppose, that "A" enters "B" on an angle when it should be in straight.

Before we start pulling apart pipes and risk doing irreversible damage to who knows what, I thought I'd ask for some help. What should we do?

Maybe the picture will help explain the problem better than I can.

Very Simple fix here:

What you have is a standard 1-1/2 PVC slip compression joint "waste & overflow" kit.





Obviously the TEE section has slipped down which has put the drain arm out of alignment with the TEE and is making it difficult to properly secure the joint.

To correct the problem:
1. loosen the slip nut on the overflow riser
2. Loosen the slip nut on the Trap Adapter.
3. Slide the Sanitary tee section upward slightly until it is in proper alignment with the drain arm.
4. Tighten the compression nut on the drain arm.
5. Tighten the compression nut on the overflow riser.
6. Tighten the compression nut on the Trap adapter.

Thank you very much for such a quick and detailed reply! Your solution would have worked if the pipe hadn't been cut too short initially, so on Tues I'll head to the plumbing supply store, get new pipe and try again.

If you have at least 3" from the top of the trap adapter to the Tee you might run by any hardware and pick up a short "1-1/2" Tailpiece Extension" which is 6" long. You would need to cut a bit off the existing tailpiece and the tailpiece extension but it would be much simpler than replacing the entire waste & overflow kit.
