Hot water baseboard revision....

Am helping my son revise his hotwater baseboard heat. His house is on a slab. His plan is to install a large door with side lights where the exisiting baywindow is. Of coarse, there's the radiator direcly beneath the window. We have a choice of going up and over the new door and burying it all in the wall, or chiselling a notch in the 'crete where the door threshold will be. I remember reading here about silvering the joints and also that the 'crete will eventually corrode the copper. How can we best handle this (and also help make me shine in the kid's eyes!)? Is this a good place to use PEX?

This seems logical to use PEX in the slab - It may even benefit the threshold with heat slightly in back of and below it.

Will look into that. I expect the joints to be above the 'crete, and the PEX bewlow it. The only issue now would be the four 90's to make the downward transition. I expect to find that stuff around the PEX department.
