Toilet blues

My (assumed to be) 10 year old Kohler toilets is
giving me fits. It has no pressure, won't fill the
bowl(unless I hold the float down, and overfill
the overflow tube). I've snaked it (scratching
the porcelain in the process), and the jet holes
are clean. The float and flapper appear to be
working correctly, but it only drains about 1/3
of the way when flushing normally. Holding the
lever down doesn't help with the lack of flushing
power. I have to plunger it after almost every
use. Any ideas????

I don't think it is a drain problem, instead I think it has more to do with the intake. Have you replaced the valve and balloon?

Well, it has the valve, but not a ball-a float.
What indicates these are defective???

It sounds like you may need to snake it again. The water not filling the bowl is troublesome. Turn off the valve and inspect everything... It could be hard water build-up. I'll think about it some more and please report back if it doesn't get better.

If you dont have the old style ball-cock with the arm and ball, then you most likely have a 200a or 400a fluidmaster. It may be defective. the line that goes from the fluidmaster into the "overflow tube" is what fills the bowl. If there is no water coming from this line, replace the fluidmaster. If the line has kinked or came out of the flushvalve aka overflow tube, then fix that. You will not get a good flush without a bowl full of water to start with. The fluidmaster is responsible for putting water into the bowl through the flushvalve
