I have and used several pair that I own and had not noticed any ovaling. If it were me, I'd crimp a ring without being on a pipe, take it out and check it. If it is not oval, it has to be the way you are crimping, if it is oval, then I would look closer at the crimping tool. I do know if I check my crimps with the Go-Nogo guage I can get it on one side but not the other (Not because of oval, but rather a beveled slope) but have never had problems. As far as if yours are ok, just apply air to the line to what ever the working pressure is. I always pump mine to 100 lbs.
