Installing whirlpool tub

I went to Home Depot and got the willamsburg elite from American Standard.
My question is that is says to use a base(like mortar but not sand)to place it on. Could I use self leveling concrete or would that lead to problems.

I would prefer to use mortar mix rather than concrete. Concrete has gravel mixed in it and the gravel could leave stones protruding against the surface where the mortax mix would not.
