Unhappy Tub Baskets

My water has eaten through my tub basket and I am trying to remove it. It is no longer attached to the Tub Shoe. How do I get the Basket out of the tub all it does is spins... I do know that it has a bushing on it as well. I thought this would be a simple job but seems to have turned into a nightmare.
Please Help.

The tub shoe passes through the tub opening then through a rubber gasket before threading into the tub shoe. If you are certain that it is unthreaded from the tub shoe then it is most likely just stuck in the rubber gasket. You should be able to grip the cross in the bottom of the basket and just lift it up through the rubber gasket.

tub baskets

The rubber Gasket is already removed and in one piece. Is there a nut that may be holding the tub basket in place I tried to pop it out with a screwdriver last nite and only broke of more of the basket.

If it was installed correctly it should be exactly as shown in the illustration.
