Sewage Ejector for Basement

I live in NJ and am in the process of roughing in the basement bathroom. According to various websites I have researched a gate valve is required along with check valve. I have a 2" PVC waste line in place. Could I use a PVC ball valve in lieu of the gate valve or is the code specific to using a gate valve. I would prefer using the ball valve for the simple reason is that these are readily available from the big box stores. Also, do you have any advice/preference on the manufactor of the ejector unit (Flotec, Wayne, Liberty etc.)

Both the International Residential Code (IRC) and the Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC) specifically require a "Gate Valve".

REF:
IRC-3007.1
UPC-710.4

If you cannot find a gate valve in the big box store check with a local plumbing supply house or try a camper/motorhome supply. They are also required on the holding tanks of campers and motorhomes however if you purchase one from a camper supply make sure it is rated as Schedule 40PVC.
