Dishwasher drain path

I am installing a new dishwasher. The DW is not next to the sink, so there is a drain pipe located in the wall directly behind the DW space.

My plan is to route the drain hose from the DW up to the top of the space to make a loop and then go back down to the drain pipe outlet, which is located 20" from the floor.

My question is: does the hose need to go directly downhill from the loop to the drain pipe, or is it okay for it to go down to the floor level and then up the 20" to the drain pipe at the end of it's path? Will it make a difference in any way as to how the drain will operate? I would like to route it to the floor first to make more space for getting the DW further back into the space.

What state and city do you live in. Depending where you live you may need to install a air gap on the dishwasher drain or they may let you get by with a high loop. The other problem is the stand pipe behind the dishwasher, if it becomes clogged it will flood your kitchen and if no one is at home it could do major damage, How far is the sink from your dishwasher

I live in a small rural town where an air gap is not required. A dishwasher has been drained in this drain pipe for the last 20 years, no clogs, no floods. The old DW had a drain hose direct from the DW to the drain pipe. I want to add a high loop when I replace the DW. I really am just looking for an answer to my question about routing the hose from the high loop to the drain pipe.

The drain should go from the high loop to the stand pipe not down to the floor and back up this may cause a siphoning action and drain the dishwasher of all its water. A high loop will not protect you from water backflowing into the dishwasher if the sink fills up to the height of the high loop, so stap it to the bottom of the counter top or as high as you can get it
