holes in sink drainpipe

what are the rectangular holes in pipe from drain to trap...two across from each other...line up with nothing but porcelin on installation...afraid they will leak

If I am not mistaken, they are for the overflow. Just make sure that you use a good seal worth of Plumbers putty and you should be A.O.K. :-)

that is what i thought...since they did not line up with ovedrflow, just jammed a bunch of putty down there to seal...
