sump pump issue?

I have a bathroom on the first floor of my house that was added in by the last owner. In the store room next to the bathroom is a pipe that goes down into a rubber disk that is about 2'-3' across. There is a power cord going down into it also. Is this my sump pump? The problem I'm having is when I take a shower there is water on top of this rubber disk that is about 1/2" deep that causes the room to smell pretty awful. I've noticed that when the toilet backs up there is also a layer of water on top. The storeroom is starting to smell pretty bad. Any recommendations?

Thanks,

Dan

Dupdup,

That sounds like a waste lift unit and it also sounds like it sprung a leak. I would run some water down the shower drain to clean the lift and then examine the unit to see where it is leaking from. Do not let anyone use the basement facilities while you are working on the lift!

Good luck, Jim
