home foundation repairs

Hi;
My home is built on a landfill 40 yrs ago. The foundation is sinking, cracked walls, doors out of plumb, etc. The house is on a hillside, although the lot is level. The previous owner put in some wooden beams to support the house in the crawl space, crawl space is 5 ft tall. I would like to ask your thoughts on repairing the foundation. I've heard of ppl raising the foundation on piers to repair, but have no idea on what type of contractors i should get.
