Closet renovation

The closet is generous but has a small doorway. I want to open the closet from the bedroom wall to the bedroom entry. Don't know how to get started or what not to do. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

the existing header for the doorway is a non load bearing wall so opening it up shouldn't be a problem. remove the existing doorway and jamb (casing). check to see if there is an outlet in the wallspace. you may have to eliminate it or relocate it somewhere else. Once this is done, use a demolition saw and cut the studs a touch above the opening. a horizontal framing piece will have to go up there to form the upper part of the existing wall. a "jack" stud will have to be put in at both ends to keep the horizontal piece up there. Here's a diagram which should make things look easier (I hope!)
