  • E-shield radiant barrier - is it worth it?

I am planning to have my attic insulation upgraded this Fall. My home is a 1-level rectangular shape home on a concrete slab (~3800 sq ft, so it's pretty long). I am definitely going to have insulation blown on top of the ceiling to get an R49 rating (currently there is only ~4-6" of fiberglass insulation on the attic floor). The question I am struggling to answer is whether or not to get e-shield barrier installed. Attic Experts in Cincinnati have recommended this for parts of my attic, especially the area that is like a "cape cod" style where there is really no attic space just the ceiling/roof itself. They are offering to install eshield for an additional $1150 (they quoted $2400 for the R49 work + some other things). Is it worth the extra money? I've read conflicting articles and not sure what to do. Cincinnati gets pretty hot from late May to early October. Our electric bills in those months are not too expensive ($130-215).

    Thanks for your help!
