  • Genie garage door opener and my lights stay on?

Could a relay have gone bad?

The opener has a button for Lights and for opening. If I hit the one for lights - nothing. The lights stay on.

They don't go out after a while when the opener is shut (Standard.)

    lights

I would check the control board. The lamp(s) operate off a timer on the control board.

      Thanks

I unscrewed the lights and now it works???

Don't know if too much heat was developed or what.

Lights are now florocesnt where they were regular light bulbs.

      ???

You got yourself a sticky relay that not getting any better. Sometimes you can tap on the relay and it will work a little again. Heat and age,

I am interested in this thread and have the same problem with a Genie Excellerator. There are two relays on the motor board but I am not sure which one commands the lights and is sticking. I tried to hear the click with a stethoscope but that did not work.

One relay is a single pole double throw (833H-1C-C) and the other a double pole double throw (845HN-2C-C).

Once you find your relay, you can order it from mouser.com (relays are less than $1 typically, with shipping around $5).

If anyone can help me with the relay to replace I would appreciate it (I would replace both but 845HN-2C-C is out of stock and I would rather not spend the time on finding a compatible one if I do not have to).
