  • Through the Wall connection for outside generator to power in the house.

During the last power outage I set a generator out side and powered a few items for 20 hrs. until power was restored.

Trouble was I had to have the window open enough to pass the power cord into the house, making this area unsecure.

I want to have an outlet I can plug the generator output in to from the outside, and then plug in from the inside for power.

I can't find what I might need for this project.

PROJECT: Drill a 1" hole through the wall for an electrical conduit and have outlets on both sides .

    Any ideas?

    thanks

    generator connection

Most people in an emergency situation use a generator to power a few items.
I agree on your security concern but there is stuff out there you can use.
To remain safe and without electro shock issues, the receptacle outside and inside needs to be contained.
Try this. Use a 2X4 weatherproof box. Remove the back knockout, install a 1/2 inch EMT connector, a piece of 1/2 inch emt, another connector and a surface mounted wiremold box.
Get hold of something called a MALE TWIST LOCK MOTOR BASE RECEPTACLE that will fit the 2X4 box.
Get the matching female connector body for the motor base.
Thread some solid wire through the emt, strip back some romex without the jacket [black, white and ground.
Inside install a standard 120 volt duplex receptacle and plate. Outside install the motor base in the box. Add a weatherproof cover and yer all set!
Use the plug, female connector body extension to go from your generator to the motor base.

Yeah ... simpler than I thought....I have an idea now....the fixtures through the wall need to be rated 30amps ...Love it!!! thanks man...I was thinking this thing way too hard thinking there was something on the market for this application but I can just do this as if it were a commercial application using heavy duty components like you describe!!

thanks again....big weather coming this way...
