  • Need feedback re stain brand/type and process for restaining!

Hi. Can you help me decide which stain would work best for me and the process it will take?

First off, I live in NE Ohio (Cleveland, OH area).

I have an old deck. The last stain that was applied a couple years ago is peeling and wearing off. Unfortunately I do not know what kind of stain was used. It appears to be solid - not too much natural wood grain showing through (other than where worn). It would probably be difficult to get every bit of stain off the deck.

Which stain would be best to use in this situation and what would the process need to be.

Please see photos for a clear idea of what the deck currently looks like (and condition of stain). Maybe someone can tell what type of stain it is.Click image for larger version

In reply to you, what YOU have is not a stain but a paint!
A stain is a pigment dissolved in a base, be it water or a solvent.
Use a high pressure jet sprayer to clean off every bit of "paint."
let it thoroughly dry [ couple of weeks]
go to a paint store and look at the MINWAX stain chips and the examples they have for different kinds of wood.
    your choice from there on!
Use a clear sealer after you apply the stain.
