aged/flaked paint on brick exterior

Hey all,
Im going to repaint the exterior of my house this summer, and the lower storie is brick. Ive seen buildings with paint jobs that look like the paint was applied 50 years ago and has begun to flake/chip off. I really love the technique, but cant find any info online on how to apply it. What is this process called?
