  • AC Outlet volts on wire but nothing from outlet

I have a outlet that shows from ground to hot wire 120 volts. however testing the outlet it shows 0 volts hot to neutral and hot to ground.
Have replaced this outlet with a new one and same results. I plug in a wiring tester and it indicates wires reversed. However, black is on
the right side top brass screw and white to top silver left screw and ground connected to the ground. The old outlet was indicating the same.
Have another outlet on a different circuit that was working now is not the wiring tester shows same indication of reverse wiring, however
this outlet has also been replaced and was working. Could this be a faulty breaker? house was built in the 80's.

    Thanks.

check the neutral splices anywhere in the line. the grounds [bare] are crimped together with a splice sleeve and so are continuous. the neutrals may have loosened up a bit causing a high resistance at the splice which will affect the whole chain.
another thing is to check the type of wiring. if you have aluminum or copper clad aluminum cable at the outlets, the joints could have started to corrode. copper to copper springs back, so to speak, aluminum doesn't. it just sits there getting weaker. aluminum and copper clad aluminum was popular in the 70's and 80's as a cheaper wiring method.
