  • Picture of 4 inch drain line and tree roots, should I worry?

The gas company is putting in new lines so I had a free inspection so they could locate the drain for the new gas lines. I bought the house in 2006, which was built in 1954, and have never had a problem or had the drain scoped so it was interesting. Here is a picture of the one blockage that we found 55 feet from where he went in. I believe this is from the Autumn Blaze maple tree that I planted about 8 years ago. The tree is actually huge now but I did not think it was near enough the drain to affect it. It looks pretty severe to me, should anything be done? I've read about something called RootX that Foams up and stops growth but doesn't kill the tree, any experience with that?

Rent a sewer machine with a root cutter attachment and clean it out, then you can dump the root killer in annually to stop further growth, no it wont kill the tree.
