  • Gas dryer vent

Am planning on adding an extra washer and gas dryer in the basement. It may require a 20 ft or more of ducting (rigid) for a vent. Is this OK? Otherwise I could go straight up and out but I would have to cut a hole through where the deck joist is bolted to the brick wall. Any thoughts appreciated.
    Thanks!

20 feet would probably be Ok but will depend on the exact model of dryer you have and how many elbows will be in the vent ducting (see the following link). Check the product's installation instructions.

Of course, the shorter the venting the better. Both for dryer operation and vent cleaning maintenance which should be done at least yearly.

    JFYI

Be sure you do indeed go rigid. I have seen flex runs fill up with condensed water in basements, that become so full of water that the hose sags like a big heavy python snake! Seriously!
