  • Icicles on the south Texas gulf coast!

Years ago I lived 300 yards from the beach. (The back yards were on the intracoastal waterway, also). It was 1978. We had record cold in Wisconsin. My mother called long distance and said it was like 45 below! Down by me, my cousin and I stoked our wood burning King stove for the night, only to wake up to 10 degrees...in the beach house!!!, on the Gulf!!!

Water lines ruptured everywhere. Most beach houses used pvc suspended under the joists of the houses up on stilts. One house ruptured particularly bad in the kitchen and this created a stalagmite/stalagtite phenomenon of ice that created a wall of solid ice, from joists to ground. You would never believe it. But I have a photograph to prove it. I have never even seen such a thing in northern Wisconsin, let alone on the southern texas Gulf coast!

I was in charge of a small community water system back then and I got many jobs repairing all these broken pipes.
