  • sewer line install

A section of my home's old 5 or 6" iron sewer line has developed lengthwise cracks, and I can smell gasses coming from it. A contractor will replace the line for about $2500.00. Altertanatively, I could try to replace just the deterioated section myself. I understand that a special tool for cutting out the section of the pipe can be rented. I would replace it with PVC. The pipe is easily accessible from the full basement. I'm farily handy, but haven't worked with this kind of iron pipe, and am wondering how difficult the job would be, and how to go about it. I'd appreciate any advice. Tom Desmond Durham, NC
