  • Frigidaire Dishwasher low water

Frigidaire dishwasher model FDB345LFS0 not cleaning, ran with door open and noticed water level is low; not enough pressure to spin lower arm and no water at all to top spayer...any suggestions?

Any home type dishwasher fills the lower portion of the tub to a stop point indicated by the float switch. the drive motor in the center operates a pump to force water through the lower [and] upper spray arm. some dishwashers have a rising center sprayer for the upper dish load. I would check the pump assembly for clogging or broken impeller segments. go to www dot partselect dot com to see if you can locate your machine and its exploded diagram.

Thanks for the link....just wondering tho, how much water should be in the tub before it starts pumping to the sprayers? Seems to me it should be more than just barely over the filter....could there be a supply problem?

You really shouldn't spread that erroneous information. That may have been true on ancient dishwasher models but it isn't in recent history (20 or so years+)... depending on the dishwasher design in question. Most modern dishwashers fill level is determined by the set length of time the control device (ie. timer, electronic control) powers a matched constant GPM water fill valve. It the overfill (aka 'float' switch) is stopping the fill, the dishwasher is filling too much.

That model dishwasher should fill for 87 sec. exactly, every time. If the fill is stopping previous to that, there could be a problem in the water fill valve, the timer or in the wiring circuit between the two. Someone might need to check to see if power was still getting to the water valve at the time it stopped to help pinpoint which is most likely. Power at the valve but no water flowing = bad water valve.

If the dishwasher is filling for the complete 87 sec. duration but the level is still low, there could be a problem in the water supply to the dishwasher or water may actually be draining from the machine prematurely, unnoticed. How long has the unit been in its current installation?

I was trying to ascertain whether something in its installation might have changed recently which might account for your symptom.

            Just for a filling problem??

If you can't determine the cause, I would say it would usually be well worthwhile having someone look into it for you... unless the rest of the dishwasher is in poor general shape (racks rusting, leaking, parts broken or missing, etc.). Filling problems are usually minor to repair but they do have to actually be investigated to determine the cause.
