  • basement floor

I want to put a sub floor in my basemnet. I've seen these 2x2 ft. tiles made of t&g particle board and have a rubber type backing. They're really expensive about $5 each...$10/sq ft.
I wanted to know if there is a cheaper/ better way to do this?

What do you have for a floor now?
Is it a dry basement or does it ever get wet?
    Why are you doing this?
All these things will determine how to handle the problem.
Also not to be smug but usually a good job done will cost a bit more money but in the end the results are infinately better.
Let me know the answers and I will try to help.

In addition to Canoebuilders questions, what sort of grade does your basement have now ?, usually when I hear people say they want to build a floor over their existing basement floor it is an older home with very rough and or dramatic grade to wards the drain.
If this is the case then building a conventional floor with treated 2x4 might be a better answer.
