  • Trimming laminate floor around concrete/rock fireplace

We just had laminate floors installed and the installer "picture framed"the trim around the fireplace. The fireplace is made up of large rock imbedded in concrete and is uneven all around the base. The moldings he plans to attach are bulky and just dont look right.(2"w x1/2 "t)

    My question is 2 fold.

    1. Do they make a flexible edging I could use instead of the normal wood molding?

    2. If no to #1, can I use a angle grinder or ? on the first 1/2 of the concrete to give us a straighter edge to butt the trim against? Or cut out enough so the trim slides under...

I am open to any suggestions..

    Thanks- Jim

I don't see why not with the angle grinder. use a four inch diamond blade or a quarter inch masonary blade. be careful that your disks are rated for the rpm-s of the grinder. don't want them flying apart on you! Use a respirator and goggles

That's a good option, but dust can be a big problem. I'd see about renting something with a dust collector or tent the area around the fireplace.
