  • Repairing Brick Wall After Stucco Falls Off

I own a 1914 home in New York where rear, exterior brick walls are covered with a stucco-like coating. During the winter, apparently after water seepage and freezing, large sections of the stucco have come loose from the wall -- re-exposing the brick. Sections of loose stucco ave taken off the outer face of the brick.

    1) Is repointing -- rather than recovering -- the newly exposed brick a repair option, given the damage to the brick face?

    2) If the brick should be recoated, what material is recommended? Stucco? Thoroseal? etc?

    3) Should a wire lathe be secured to the brick before a new covering is applied?

Thanks in advance for any feedback you can provide.
