  • Amana wont light-sometimes

I have an Amana Air Command High Efficency 90. Model # guc070x30a.
When it fails the igniter heats up 3 times to light the gas and then the blower kicks on with no fire and runs untill I notice and stop it. It had been happening about once a week, but its been happening more frequently lately (3 times last 48hrs.). I've been getting it going by turning the thermostat down (to shut the blower off) and then back up and it will USUALLY light right away. I've pulled the burners off and cleaned them, but I dont think I'm even getting gas the times it fails.
    ANY help would be great.
    Thanks

    RE: Amana Furnace ignition problem

    Bise,

Did you ever figure out the root cause of this and/or get it repaired? My same model furnace is exhibiting the same symptoms, except that it refuses to turn on.

I suspected it wasn't getting any gas after summoning the courage to determine if the gas was actually coming out from the nozzles by (insert 6 o' clock news worthy antics here). I then turned the gas valve (the one inside the furnace) back and forth a few times and gave a gentle tap on some of its components with a screwdriver handle. I cycled the power for 30 seconds, and it began working.

Perhaps it was a stuck gas valve? I suspect I'll being having it repaired this winter by a professional repair man when the holiday weekend rates are in effect.

Amana Service Manual (if i can't attach it)
    Google: "guc070x30a service instructions"

It has the trouble codes the computer unit flashes, though you have to detach the lower door to see the model number of the control computer.

Perhaps Google will index these Amana Furnace Model numbers and help someone else:

        Mikee,
        It was the valve.
The problem gradually got worse untill the furance wasnt relighting at all after I would shut it down. Not knowing what else to do, I took the handle of a screwdriver and tapped it on the valve that is controlled by the thermostat. The furnace light right up every time for the next couple days. Then it would be the same thing; wouldnt light unless you gave the valve a tap.
I went to the local heating and cooling repair guys and had a new valve in 5 days for $55 or so. I put the valve on myself, but didnt trust myself to take apart and clean the old gas valve.
I would take HayZee's advice and check for recalls too.
        Luck to you.
        bise

try checking the flame sensor. sometimes it gets film on it causes false reading. its located on end of burner rail mine had yellow wire going to it. i removed lightly sanded then installed it back. problem solved only took about ten minutes to fix hope this works for you.
