  • Painting heating pipe?

I'm going to need to re-paint the floor to ceiling cast iron steam pipe in my Mom's bathroom. I have no idea when it was last done but the paint now is completely flaking and falling off.

Do I need to use special "heat" paint or will regular paint do the job?

    Thanks,
    Dan

regular paint will flake off. those high heat paints used on engine manifolds will work.

      Hi dkpbxman'

I would guess the best thing to do is get a bare metal conditioner for the type of metal your pipes are made of and apply. Than use a metal primer intended for same as previously mentioned. Than apply top coat. The paint HayZee518 mentioned I really don't think is necessary because I don't believe your pipes are getting as hot as engine manifolds.

I think if you are painting your home again and you need not to paint with full specs you just need a bit improment of all.
