  • Chimney clean-out

Mom's two story brick chimney has a cast iron(?) door at ground level about 8" tall and 12" wide. It hasn't been opened in years and the hinged door has become one with the cast iron frame. It is beyond WD-40. Any thoughts on how I can open it might be opened would be much appreciated.

kerosene with a light motor oil will cut through the rust. go easily tho, open it a little at a time until the door is lubricated. wd-40 is useless in this application

Thank you! I will try that and let you know how it works. You probably already know that WD40 stands for Water Displacement Formula 40. I found it very interesting.

Now, where did I put that kerosene?

a quick source of kero is the same lamp oil you get for lanterns. scented or un-scented the base is undyed kerosene.
