  • help! asphalt siding needs repair

I have an older house constructed I think in the 1940s, has gray asphalt siding. A few of the sheets of the siding are rotting away. How do I repair them? Where would I get replacement pieces of asphalt siding? I don't want to spend money residing the whole house. A couple of years ago I tried patching the rotting pieces of siding with black tar goop from Home Depot, but that has worn away so I see brownish wet felt or whatever underneath the rotted asphalt siding. I need to fix this, worries me that the side of my house will suffer serious damage if I do not repair this. Can anybody help?

I don't even know if you can buy the stuff anymore. check online for replacements.

Your best bet is to contact a lumber yard in perhaps St. Paul and see if they still have some of that available, although I doubt it. Next step would be to get some from a home being torn down or abandoned.

      Good Luck,
